A Visit to a Borehole in Garissa County

Last week, we had the opportunity to visit a borehole in Garissa County, where we met some of the people who benefit from this vital source of water. The borehole was drilled but lacks tunnels for water catchment .HELP DADAAB that works to improve the lives of refugees and host communities in NORTHEASTERN and its surroundings.

The borehole provides clean and safe water for drinking, cooking, washing and and cattle rearing . It also supports a small-scale animal rearing project that helps the community . The borehole is powered by diesel generators, which make it not environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

However, the borehole also faces some challenges that need to be addressed. For instance, the water level fluctuates depending on the rainfall and the demand. Sometimes, the borehole runs dry and people have to wait for hours or days to get water. The borehole also needs regular maintenance and repairs to ensure its functionality and quality. Moreover, the borehole is not enough to meet the needs of the growing population in the area, especially during droughts and emergencies.
